Chopped

I’ve taken a liking to Chopped, the Food Network show in which contestants are given a box of foods, a time limit, and need to make a course of a meal. It’s easy to drop in and out of the show. There’s no mythology. Easy entertainment.

But the most interesting part of the show is actually no longer a part of the show. Per the Pedia of Wiki, the show originally had a great concept:

According to host Ted Allen, the show “was originally meant to be taped at some guyโ€™s mansion with him and his crazy Chihuahua. A stuffy fellow in a tuxedo was to host, and the losing chefโ€™s dish was then fed to the dog…it was too much for Food Network.”

Come on! That’s great! Except for the dog. Chopped as it stands takes place in a kitchen. It’s too bad that the original concept didn’t make it all the way through.

In the original concept, I guess they’d be doing all dishes without onion…

True. I don’t think that would stop ’em.

What is this then?
