Monopoly is one of those games that seems to invite myriad house rules. And now we have a bazillion variations, like Doctor Who Monopoly, which doesn’t help things any.
What are some of the rules you played with?
I remember playing Monopoly with my family when I was pretty little, so the rules were simplified. Notably, there was no rent assessed. If you landed on a space, you just landed on it, no biggie. The goal of the game, then, was to either get as many spaces as possible or fall asleep due to fatigue. I do remember building houses and hotels, but given there was no rent I’m not quite sure how that happened. And, no Free Parking rules.
Nowadays when I do play it – and I probably haven’t played it in 5 or more years – the main variation is the Free Parking jackpot.
