The Daily Ping

The original Ping was painfully written in Perl.

Journal articles

Recently, there have a been a couple of articles I’m interested in reading, but these articles only appeared in academic journals. Academic journals are far from open with their content (though I hope the tide is changing) and there was no way I was paying $30 for a copy of each of the two articles.

Instead, I e-mailed the authors of both articles. Both were professors, so their e-mail addresses were easy to find. I asked whether they might be able to send me a PDF copy of their article so that I didn’t have to pay the journal $30 for it. In both cases, just a few days later, the professors replied with copies of their articles.

There’s your Ping Lifehacking tip of the day: when things aren’t free, sometimes you just need to ask for them to be so.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
