The site’s design will take you back to 1997, but the content of the site will take you back to the 1970s and 80s in New York City, when street gangs were common. The site includes the biggies like the Black Spades and the Savage Nomads, but also ones I’d never heard of before like the suave TWC and the awesomely-named Assassinators. The site features plenty of vintage photos, recent photos, and memories from the members themselves. It’s a pretty interesting view into a piece of history that played a big part in the growth of NYC’s various other subcultures (hip-hop, graffiti, etc.). Maybe someday Leonardo DiCaprio will be in a movie about them.
