Microsoft’s Future Vision

It should be no surprise that I dig videos and presentations which talk about the future. So when Microsoft’s Future Vision made the rounds this past week I had to take a look.

There are some interesting concepts here. I like the idea of displays not being confined to their own devices, for instance. But man… I have some concerns. Every swipe is VERY DELIBERATE, as if to say, “LOOK at me SWIPE this INFORMATION!” So not casual.

And then there’s the fact that we’re going to need to invest heavily in Windex in the future; iPads and phones get a ton of fingerprints today. Just imagine how smudgy this is all going to be.

I know that BlackBerry also produced a futuristic video thingie this week, but I find the idea of looking at little transparent screens all over the place a lot more interesting when it involves recipes and video chats than partitioning enterprise security stuff. Boooooring,

The translating glasses….if that is really possible, then…WOW.

I get the feeling that it’s gonna be like those early 90’s ads from AT&T (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZb0avfQme8), where some of the predictions are close, and some just seem outdated. (Sending a fax…FROM THE BEACH!)

I don’t know about you, Dave, but I LOVE to fax from the beach. I do that all the time.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
