After writing the Scott Valentine Ping the other day, I came across something I had completely forgotten about: the pilot episode of The Art of Being Nick, which was a spinoff series for the Nick character from Family Ties. Nick goes to live in New York and start his art career. He moves in with his unlucky-in-love sister and her witty young son and tries to get a job at a bookstore run by co-star Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (post-Troll, pre-Day by Day).
Thanks to the wonders of YouTube, you can watch the show in three glorious parts. It’s about what you’d expect, though it does have its moments. Alas, the series never made it past the pilot episode.
So, turn your volume way up and enjoy. (And, oh my, check out that theme.)
