Adult Drive-Ins

Sure, even young kids know that drive-ins used to be prevalent in the US. But I bet not too many of you knew that there were drive-ins that showed porn. I didn’t until John Book mentioned it (and shared his research about it) on twitter.

The pictures on that archived Geocities page (the ones that remain, at least) are pretty fascinating. The drive-in was in Washington state and featured 120 individual screens (!!) as part of their “Autoscope” theatre. The technology behind it is crazy fascinating, but even moreso is the uncomfortable idea of 120 people in their cars watching adult films and… likely doing what people do when they watch adult films. Right out there in the open.
