Have you seen Jonathan Stark’s Starbucks card experiment? He has a Starbucks card that he’s made public. Anyone can use it, anyone can fill the card back up (“based on the similarity to the ‘take a penny, leave a penny’ trays”), and anyone can check the card’s current status on Twitter. I mean, there’s even an API.
It’s a neat experiment. And even though common wisdom would suggest that the card would be used up and then never refilled, the balance never dips down to 0 for long before someone throws some coinage into the pot.

What a fine idea! I approve of this, in part because it reminds me of the Olde Webbe.

I’d seen his reply on Facebook this morning, but hadn’t heard the info about his employer yet. Interestful!
