On a lark, I conducted a search for the cheapest car on cars.com in my area. The answer is a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with 153,000 miles for 500 bucks. Not bad. Not very interesting though.
Then I decided to branch my search out to anywhere, and I found a few interesting things.
- Here’s an obvious joke listing for a $3 Eagle Talon. Nice photo.
- A 1904 Cadillac Model A for $9. That would be this car although I doubt the $9 model is in that good of a condition.
- Cars.com apparently uses the cheap listings to monitor site performance! There’s a slew of listings for a 1989 Yugo GV for $10. Good choice, as I’m guessing that’s about what a Yugo is worth.
- There are a few people who took shortcuts in their pricing. Like this $16 2006 Mercedes. Heck, I’ll take a dozen!
- I must admit, if you put gullwing doors on your Dodge Magnum station wagon, maybe $19 is an appropriate price.
- A lovely Ford F150, with a lot of space for the kids. Just $400.
Finally if you were wondering like I was, the car with the most mileage is a 1990 Chevy Lumina Euro for $499. When “starts and idles” is listed as a feature, you know you’re driving a bargain!
