I have to say that this post about digital product placement, via MetaFilter, was an eye-opener for me.
In brief, reruns of shows such as How I Met Your Mother are manipulated digitally to insert new ads. The technology has been in use for a while, but it’s definitely one of those things that I suspect few people outside of that industry noticed.
So the next time you’re reading one of our Pings from 2000, be careful: we might be inserting ads for the Kevin James movie Zookeeper. (Good golly, I hope not.)
