I’ve always been a two-spacer. Period, two spaces, first word of the sentence. Why have I done this? I’m not sure… just because I always have.
Then I started hearing that one space was correct. But I didn’t care. “Most applications end up ignoring the second space anyway,” I told myself.
Eventually, though, I read “Space Invaders: Why you should never, ever use two spaces after a period.” and decided, “OK… I’ll give this a shot.” And, thus, for the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to become a one-spacer.
I’m getting better, but I tell you, it’s been difficult. I still have to explicitly think about what I’m doing in order to erase 35 years of muscle memory (yes, I’ve been typing since birth), but it’s slowly becoming more natural feeling.
Raise your hand if you’re a recent one-space convert.

Ryan, I used to be a two-spacer. In fact I’m sure my old Pings are two-spaced. But I converted! I did it. It’s a lot to overcome, but just think: you’re saving 50% of the time it takes to type after every single sentence. That’s huge!
You can do it!
