I’ve really taken a liking to Simplenote. It’s a free webapp with companion iOS, Windows, and Mac apps which allows you to take notes. That’s about it. It’s pleasant and easy to use.
The wonderful feature is that your notes stay in sync across all of these apps. So I can update a note on my iPad and find it updated on the Mac just seconds later. That’s really all I need, and Simplenote fills the bill. (Evernote, in contrast, feels bloated.)
It’s kind of funny to me, though, that syncing across platforms and devices is such a big deal – and desktop OSes have had mixed success with implementing it. Smaller companies have stepped up to the plate and helped fix these deficiencies. Between Simplenote and Dropbox, the majority of my syncing needs are covered.
