The towels that will never die

As I stepped out of the shower this morning (ooooh baby!) and toweled myself off (watch out now!) I realized something (big reveal!): I was using a towel that I’ve had since college. (For reference, I graduated 12 years ago.)

Which got me to thinking: what other things do I still use semi-regularly that I used in college (or even earlier)? Much of my high school stereo equipment is being used in my basement studio. I have a second college towel that still gets used. The guest bed in our house dates back to my childhood (!) and is probably the most comfortable bed in the house. Don’t worry: no underwear has survived that long (though there may be a t-shirt or two from the old days).

How about you? What items from your distant past are still in regular use?

I’ve still got some sweatshirts from college. Even better, they still fit me. And for reference, I graduated from college 21 years ago. We still use the LL Bean backpack that I bought to use for grad school…in 1990. My car was manufactured while you were still in college.

I have melmac plates from freshman year at PSU, 1985, that I only this week retired. The knife grooves just became too nasty to ignore. They were such a lovely shade of mauve that I hated to part with them, so they will sit under houseplants to catch water.

jk — When I saw “melmac plates from 1985,” first thing I thought was that you’ve been using ALF plates for 25 years.

What is this then?
