A few nights ago my wife and I sat down to watch American Idol. Our DVR briefly showed us the show’s description which read, amusingly, “American Idol starring Ellen DeGeneres and some other people.” We thought it was cute.
We saw the same description on the subsequent night as well. We figured it was just a temporary thing, and it was… for Idol. But when scrolling through the channel guide I noticed a curious program on the Earth channel, whose sole purpose is to show photos of the earth from the Dish satellite up in space. The program, usually called “Planet Earth,” was now called “Ellen DeGeneres LOVES Planet Earth.” Curious, I switched to the channel to find the usual programming: the earth plus classical music. The description? “Not only does Ellen DeGeneres love America, and other countries, but the ENTIRE PLANET.”
At this point I was wondering if some creepy Ellen stalker guy found a way to change the text of the Dish descriptions. Still curious, I searched for Ellen’s eponymous show. And the description was equally good: “What will Ellen DeGeneres, the world’s funniest and sexiest woman, do today?”
I didn’t know what to think, but I knew that I found it all amusing. I shared these humors with Ryan and proceeded to find that Dish was called out for not including Ellen on its ordinary Idol listing; this Ellen love was all done in response.
Good stuff, Dish! At least you’re not drunk!
