I really do love the local library. They’ve got great books. They’ve got great kids’ programs. But the other day when searching the county’s catalog, I realized exactly how many movies they have. I mean, I knew they have movies, but I picked a bunch of movies from my Netflix queue and searched for them at the library and found about 2/3rds of them! Between the library’s selection, Netflix’s selection, and Netflix’s streaming selection, there are few movies that one won’t be able to see. And being a library, they tend to have a good selection of not only mainstream films, but of art house films, foreign movies, and Criterion Collection releases (which still cost an arm and a leg to purchase).
I guess I should come clean about how I really realized the selection of movies at the library is good. We had a Netflix film for a month-and-a-half and hadn’t returned it because we’d only watched the first 1/3rd of it. Eventually, I was like, “Screw it, let’s just return it and watch it online” because it had recently become available for streaming. Then, I checked the library, and it was there. So, I could get the DVD, return the Netflix movie in order to get the next movie that I’ll hold onto for way too long, and wouldn’t have to mess with the streaming option.
So, in summary: yay for the library.
