Naperville, Illinois, decided this week that it was all right for a menorah to be placed next to a Christmas tree on their Riverwalk. This was a contentious issue because, astoundingly, there are multiple religions celebrating year-end holidays. Huh!
That’s not what made me take notice of this article. No, no, that’s fine. It was this:
“We have designated place [sic] in the park district for free speech events, but the Riverwalk is not one of them,” [Park District attorney Derke Price] said.
So don’t forget, Napervillians, that you need to first check to make sure you’re in a free speech event zone before exercising your freedom of speech. Happy holidays!
