Earlier this year I seriously considered an experiment wherein I would listen to nothing but one genre of music for an entire month. The possibilities were endless, but I thought smooth jazz would be a nice start. I became mildly fascinated by the entire smooth jazz subculture and envisioned a time where I’d interview true fans, get to appreciate the music, and fall asleep every five minutes when listening to a Dave Koz solo.
So it was with interest that I read about a Chicago-based web radio broadcaster, ChiTownSmoothJazz who would be pushing a “smooth hanukkah” format.
The channel features jazzy versions of traditional Jewish holiday songs by such artists as Kenny G, Dave Koz, Bela Fleck and Ben Sidran, as well as original compositions. It’s one of more than a dozen smooth jazz radio channels on the free site.
Can Smooth Kwanzaa be far behind? (Let’s hope so.)
