Is there an apple finer than the honeycrisp?
I don’t recall seeing honeycrisps available before, say, the mid-00s. Wikipedia claims they were first released in 1991 but were developed in the 70s. But when I had first heard of them I was skeptical. Could they be better than even Granny Smith, my favorite?
The answer was yes. And everyone I’ve run into seems to love the honeycrisp, as evidenced by the number of coworkers planning to steal apples I’ve left on my desk this week. They’re pricey, sure, but I think they’re just fantastic.
Also worth reading is the longer story of how honeycrisp came to be. Thanks, Minnesota!
