Earlier today, Ryan and I were discussing our offices and workspaces.
I have actually never had a real, honest-to-gosh, close-the-door office. Most of my companies have embraced the “cubes for everyone!” mentality which is not the end of the world, really. I once worked in a big, open loft which was nice but offered zero privacy.
But my worst office was at an otherwise fine job. It was a small company of about a dozen folks, and I was the lone person without a real office. My cube was in a room off of the supply/copy room, with no natural light. It was kind of dark and kind of sad.
How about you? What’s your worst?

I’ve been lucky as I’ve had a nice window office for the majority of the time at my current job. But for the first week I was here I was at a table in a conference room. On top of that, the conference room connected two main parts of the office, so people walked through it constantly.
I later got an “office” with walls made of of boxes stacked up and then I shared a closet with someone.

My first job out of college. We had about 15 small cubes crammed into a windowless room that really only had room for about 10 cubes. And since this was back when computers were still a luxury item, you shared a terminal with the cube next to you, so the wall was gone between you and your neighbor.
