I was surprised a few weeks ago when driving around northern New Jersey to see an A&P grocery store. I thought they were long out-of-business and hadn’t seen one in at least ten years. But, they’re still kicking, 150 (!!) years after they opened. Turns out they’re all over the place from northern New Jersey up through New England.
Here are a few ads from the 80s, showing off those great A&P colors. The first one’s classic, the second makes me a little queasy, and the third starts at 2:30 after a fun Talking Big Bird commercial and a somewhat baffling ad from the Canned Food Council.

Super commercials. Now Kelly Ripa is the Lower Price Project spokesperson for the chain.
Still miss as a kid, Mickey Rooney saying WEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
and the Price and Pride guys.
