Last week, a bunch of people from the infamous 4chan (no link, you’ll figure it out) hacked Time‘s online voting device in order to get a secret message spelled out. The details of their hack are here and I will admit it’s impressive.
But the very first question that came into my mind was, “Why couldn’t they use this knowledge for something useful?”
It’s nice that those 12 or so folks who worked on it were able to figure it out – and quickly. Now let’s see you do something beneficial with it, like get my address off of all of those phony mortgage refinance mailing lists (I got 4 yesterday.)
