It all started a few months ago when my daughter was sitting on the couch watching one of the Sesame Street Old School DVDs when she burst out in tears. I couldn’t figure out what the problem was at first, but through a little trial and error, I eventually realized that she had cried when a Carol Burnett segment came on. I played it again, just to see, and she started crying again yelling, “No! No! No!” Very, very weird.
A few weeks later, I popped in a Muppet Show DVD I’d gotten out of the library. One of the guest stars was Carol Burnett. Perhaps I’m a mean father, but I put the episode on to see whether it was really Carol Burnett she was afraid of or if it was something else on that Sesame Street sketch that bothered her. All was OK at first, but after about 30 seconds, I saw her eyes start to well up and her bottom lip quiver. I managed to shut it off just as she started with the “No no no!”
So, my daughter is terrified of Carol Burnett.
I will, report, though, that she has no problems with Gilda Radner.
