Paul’s mention of MTVmusic.com the other day got me to thinking about one video from my childhood that really stood out in my memory: Yes’ “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” I have strong memories of being really creeped out by it, especially by a scene where the main character has maggots on his face.
The thing is, in the last 20 years, every time I’ve seen the video, that scene wasn’t in it. And I’d never heard anyone else talk about it, so I figured I was just crazy and dealing with early onset of senility. When MTVmusic.com launched, I watched the video and, still, no maggots.
BUT.
A comment on a YouTube version of the video mentioned the maggots. I wasn’t crazy!
And, YouTube FTW, again: a signifcantly longer (and creepier) version of the video. The shots I remembered were from 4:30-4:34.
And that, folks, is the story of the most (only?) helpful YouTube comment ever.

If I learned one thing about maggots, it was that they can play tricks on your mind. Ever seen Poltergeist?
