Mounds

For whatever reason I’ve been on a bit of a coconut kick lately. I enjoyed some lackluster frozen yogurt last week with shredded coconut on it just last week; this week I’ve enjoyed an Almond Joy or two.

But you know that wherever Almond Joy is, Mounds is sure to follow. Right? Oddly, not so much. At the last few stores I’ve visited that indeed sell Almond Joy, no Mounds were to be found. Anywhere. What’s up with that?

I can deal with the almonds nowadays (I couldn’t when I was a kid.) But is the almond industry so large and powerful that they’ve now taken out Mounds? Was the name deemed too offensive after nearly 90 years? Or did Hershey just decide, “Ah, screw it – we want to mess with Paul?” I think it’s the latter.

Incidentally here’s a lot about Peter Paul, the company that created Almond Joy and Mounds, from the great-granddaughter of one of the company’s founders. Hershey owns them now, natch.

Wow..I used to love Mounds, but I haven’t seen them in ages. Now I’m craving an Almond Joy.

I’m the same way, I’ve learned to like the almonds, but I still prefer the Mounds.

What is this then?
