Friends – and I hope I can call all of you that – I come before you today as a tired American. Sure, the incessant babble about the Presidential Campaign is tiring as is news of the stock market dropping another few percent. But what’s really important and what’s got me losing sleep at night are my shoelaces.
I bought some new shoes a week or so ago. I like them. They like me. Except that the shoelaces tend to just undo themselves. I’ll be walking along and find that gradually my left shoe starts feeling looser. More comfortable sure, but then I start wondering if something’s wrong (such as, “Did my foot just shrink?”) I’ll look down and see two pieces of spaghetti following my shoe. Embarrassing.
Tying the bow a little tighter than usual sometimes does the trick but often it just seems to be that the cuffs of my pants rub against the laces and BAMMO! untie them. I dislike this. I’m tired of it.
A number of years back I had a slip-ons only policy. No Velcro, just clogs and the like. Maybe I need to go back to that.

Try double knotting them. That’s what I have to do to keep my boots from untying.

There’s always Velcro!
I went “no laces” with my most recent dress shoe purchase, and I have to say….I LOVE IT.
