Dump for Sale

A lot of houses in our neighborhood, like in neighborhoods across the country, are up for sale these days. While many present well, it amazes me at other times how downright crappy other houses that are up for sale look.

In a lot of the cases, the family has already moved out of the house and what results is an overgrown, unkempt looking house. What I don’t understand is why they aren’t paying for regular yard maintenance. Paying $20 every few weeks to cut and edge the lawn would make their property look so much more presentable. One lawn in front of a house I saw last year (and one that’s still for sale) had grass that had grown as high as my waist.

In other cases, it gets more baffling. One house a block or so away has Christmas lights up year-round. They don’t turn them on, but the icicle lights are there all year. The house is now up for sale and, yes, the icile lights are still on the house. If I were the realtor, I’d just borrow a ladder and get those things down. It looks ridiculous.

It’s not just in my area, though. The It’s Lovely! I’ll Take It! blog catalogs the worst of the worst when it comes to home listings. Note the image in the header — that was an actual picture used in a real estate listing, giant dog head and all.

Have you seen any doozies around you?
