Working from home

I’ve been working from home one day a week for a while now, and I’ve got to say I really enjoy it. It’s more relaxing (usually) and it lets me focus on getting things done without walk-in interruptions from co-workers for “just one little request.” Knowing I have one day each week where I can plow through little items that pile up or chip away at a larger project without interruption is really nice.

However, there are some other benefits:

  • A full pantry of snacks I enjoy
  • The wife, daughter, and dog are all available when I need human interaction
  • Short commute from bed to desk
  • A 10-minute nap after lunch is OK
  • I can work with the windows open on nice days

Of course, there are some downsides. It can be difficult to focus when what you really would rather be doing is playing with the kid or watching Judge Joe Brown. And… well, really, that’s about it.
