Impressively, Gallagher – the watermelon-smashing stand-up comedian – still has a career. I know! The Onion‘s AV Club‘s Amelie Gilette saw him perform and he’s still got it. If by “it” I mean “non-comedy”:
Gallagher used the word “Oriental,” and not to describe a rug. He also used the word “sissy” on several occasions–as in “Chris? That’s a sissy name. That’s the problem with America these days, all the boys have sissy names, blah blah blah.” I’m paraphrasing, because at the show my mind was too busy thinking, “When is he going to stop saying these things?”
It sounds like a dreadful experience and the video on the page confirms it. Moreso though, it sounds like Gallagher – who never broke through to really, really big stardom – is old and bitter, a tough combo. Worse, I don’t think he’s so bad (in the ironic sense) that he could turn around and become hip with the hipsters (like Chuck Norris)… it seems like he’s just bad.

I never quite understood how that guy ever had an audience.
Sort of like us, really.
