We’ve had a lot of snow in Chicago this winter. Not a ton, but certainly more than the last few years.
This past week, the town I live in announced that they were very low on salt. Thus, only main roads would be salted – others wouldn’t be touched at all. This surprised me quite a bit – I’ve lived in Chicago all my life, except for one year, and can’t recall this happening before. The result was a number of messy, sloppy streets that were hard to navigate. Great!
I have a suggestion to alleviate the situation: buy more salt. Oh, no more money for salt? Okay, suggestion two: our dog loves to eat snow and ice – let’s use him! At his size, weight, and age I figure it’d take him the rest of his adult life to lick our street. But it’d be the cutest thing ever.

Can’t Chicago just go ask its neighbor for some? That’s what neighbors are for.
