Costco’s Reusable Bags

The last time we were at Costco, saving oodles of money by spending it, we noticed something great: reusable totes. Big ones! And cheap! So we bought them. A three pack for around $3.

We’ve used them since then but it’s been a little weird for two main reasons. The first is that they are comically large. Sitting side-by-side, the three take up the width of the back of our truck. Our puppy could fit in one of them 4 times over and still have a little room.

The other weird thing is that people just don’t know what to do with them. We use them at Target seeing as we already have 892 of their plastic bags. However, they’re too big for the normal cashier bagging area so they end up at the very end of the checkout lane. This past week I mentioned to the cashier that I wanted to use them (even said “ridiculously large” to be funny), and started setting them up at the end of the aisle.

So she started bagging things in… Target plastic bags. “No,” I said, “I want to use these.” “So you don’t want any plastic bags?” “No.” That’s the point.

The unfortunate thing is that the size of these bags must’ve made my cashier lose a few brain cells as she decided to just toss everything in these bags as she saw fit. Bread was on the bottom of the bag. Eggs? Off to the side. Soft stuff? Just throw it under the pickles.

Nevertheless, I do like these bags. It’s too bad they’re pretty much only for Costco-sized trips.
