The Soup

Did you know that Talk Soup is back?

Well, it is. Sorta. As The Soup. It wasn’t always this way apparently, but I’ve got to say that while the show isn’t exactly the same as the old Talk Soup it’s pretty close. You know the drill: witty host (Joel McHale in this case) makes dry and/or witty comments about clips from TV shows. Unlike Talk Soup though, The Soup covers the entire TV spectrum from home shopping to commercials to reality shows to, uh, talk shows.

In my mind McHale is second to ol’ Skunk Boy John Henson in hosting duties. Hal Sparks was a nice diversion and Aisha Tyler was talented but not a good fit… and of course Greg Kinnear was, uh, before my time with Talk Soup. McHale’s got the snarky guy attitude down pat and is quick to keep the show moving along.

And, uh, it makes me laugh. That’s pretty good right? Right?

I think Joel McHale is funny. The problem is, I can’t STAND the fake laughter that plays everytime he makes a joke.

I agree, though..Henson’s Soup still reigns supreme.

It’s hard to top Henson, but I really love McHale’s version. He’s hilarious and with so much bad TV on these days he has a lot of cannon fodder.

And I actually like the laughter because I don’t think it is fake. It’s the cast and crew filming the episode. To me it’s more like him telling jokes with his friends. Not the canned laughter telling you when something’s supposed to be funny on According to Jim.

Man, Talk Soup with Henson was one of TV’s best shows in the 90s.

I’ve watched The Soup a couple of times and it wasn’t bad. Not great, but not bad considering what else E! shows these days (what else DO they show these days?).

Greg Kinnear was adorable! He had the fresh sarcasm like Dennis Miller had back in 1986.

What is this then?
