I like homemade bread. It’s cheap, easy to make (if you take the lazy route like I do and use a breadmaker), and you control what goes into it.
Current favorite: orange-cranberry bread.

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!

When I was living alone in Upstate NY I’d often bake bread during the winter. My neighbors would tell me they could smell it. So, I would set up a “DIY kit” for my apartment neighbors.
I would make the dough from scratch, proof, roll and shape the dough, oil and herb the top. Then I’d take it next door “let” my neighbors bake the bread. They loved it and I got some great neighbors out of the deal.

I like it too, but I wouldn’t mind advice on a good breadmaker. Ours is marginal, sadly. (And I gave it as a gift. Ugh.)

Paul – hold are your arms. There… those things at the ends… the BEST breadmaker. Your hands.
