The End of Weekly World News

I’d like to ask everyone for a moment of silence. Weekly World News, the nation’s most… uh… accurate? tabloid, is ending publication next month.

The thing was launched in 1979, and I just assumed it’d always be around. Was it terrible? Of course. But it just felt like a big parody of tabloids in general, and I applaud that. (I wonder if they ever ran diet tips….)

I think I’ll miss Bat Boy the most.

That is sad! I remember always picking up a copy of this and a 48-pack of the worst hot dogs possible before going on boating trips in middle school. Good times, good times.

Ryan, you ate meat?

Loosely speaking.

jk — Indeed I did. I didn’t become vegetarian until I was 24 and back in high school it wasn’t unusual for me to down two Big Macs for dinner.

It all adds up! Kind of like a big game hunter becoming a card-carrying member of PETA.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
