Two Songs I Heard On Hold Yesterday

I was on hold yesterday. I heard two songs.

First was New Order’s “Everytime I See You Falling.” I hated this song. Perhaps it just hasn’t aged well (I don’t remember hearing it when it came out), but it made my ears bleed.

Second was The Romantics’ “Talking In Your Sleep.” I forgot how much I liked this song. This is right up there with “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” in terms of 80s new wave pop.

I should also note that these were the original versions and not muzak versions.

Now if I could just hear “Rebel Yell” while waiting for technical support, I’d be happy.

Sorry chum, the first song is actually titled “Bizarre Love Triangle”. And yeah, I agree: New Order’s stuff feels very 80s.

Interestingly I too heard the Romantics’ number and enjoyed it too. Hm.

Google failed me, it seems.

Oh no!! If google starts failing that means the end of the world must be near!

I usually get stuck with the same tune repeating over and over again. Like a demo sound from an old keyboard.

Although I find New Order’s version of “Bizarre Love Triangle” to be a fun song that reminds me of the 80s (in a good way), I do see how you might find it annoying, Ryan. You should dig up a copy of the same song as sung by Frente. I find their version to be sweet and just sappy enough, and it doesn’t have the same 80s flavor.

I don’t think Billy Idol is a very popular choice for hold music.. although I certainly wouldn’t complain!

Jeani, my musical Ping peer! I agree with you 100%.

The original version reminds me of going to clubs in 1989 when I was 21 (heck I was 22) and my friend Lena had to use her sister’s ID to get into places. Her boyfriend had a fake ID too and one bouncer asked him what his sign was because he looked like he was about 16. He did not know…and I can’t remember what happened after that because I was in an 80s fog.

I am still amazed that The The’s “Uncertain Smile” is being used by M&Ms. THAT makes me smile.

What is this then?
