Someone Killed My Digg Tonight

In case you didn’t see it, Digg kinda self-destructed last night.

Someone posted a link to a story with the key necessary to break HD-DVD encryption. That article got yanked by Digg. Then, people “dugg” the article’s removal. Then, the site got flooded with stories and links featuring the key. It’s really amazing to see; as I type this, it reaches down the first five pages (!) of the site. Wow.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the aftermath of this shakes out. For what it’s worth, the page with the code was killed at Wikipedia too.

Digg in revolt mode is pretty entertaining.

Kevin Rose is now allowing people to post the code.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
