I was flipping through the TiVo guide last week when I noticed that, amazingly, The King of Queens is still on the air. New episodes, even! Apparently this is the final season for the show, its ninth.
I’m amazed because I’ve seen the occasional episode in syndication and thought it was an okay diversion but nothing really that funny or interesting. It’s the basic “fat guy/skinny wife” formula that we’ve seen 184 times over starting with The Honeymooners, and didn’t bring much new to the table. I guess keeping Jerry Stiller on the air is worth something but for nine years?
Obviously people are still watching King of Queens. But who?

I watch it whenever I see Patton Oswalt on. It’s really not a terrible show, considering its many, obvious faults.

“According to Jim” has to top the list of shows like that. I know Jim’s a Chicago guy like you guys, but seriously? I figured that show for dead three episodes in and God knows how long ago that was. I’ve never seen an episode or heard anyone else every mention seeing an episode, but it’s still around so it must be doing something.
As far as “King of Queens”, I’ve never seen the show either. The Saved By the Bell fan in me can’t get past Leah Remini’s (wife on KofQ) role as the pain-in-the-ass Stacey Carosi. Hated her then and never got over it.
I will tell you that I worked in the UPS corporate office when that show hit the air and there were a lot of nervous people in the office hoping it would fail. To my knowledge, the focal point of the show isn’t making fun of his company – an obvious UPS knockoff – but you know how worried execs can get about stuff like that.

I still watch the show, though it’s gone way downhill the last couple of years. But the first few seasons, there were some honest to goodness good episodes.
I mean, c’mon — Lou Ferrigno!

I am bothered by the fact that the exterior shot of the front door does not match the door when you see it inside. The windows are different!
But no I don’t really watch it unless I am too tired to find the remote.
