A Taco Isn’t a Sandwich

It’s kind of sad, but also quite amusing, that a judge needed to rule that a taco isn’t a sandwich.

Panera Bread – they of the tasty baked goods – had a clause in a particular store’s lease that forbade the owner from leasing another space in the plaza to a sandwich shop. Makes sense. Except that when Qdoba – they of the finest damn queso ever – came to town, Panera cried foul. Get this: they actually argued that Qdoba’s tacos, burritos, and presumably their queso were sandwiches.

I know. WTF?

I think my favorite part of the AP story is that the judge in question quoted the dictionary. You know you’ve lost your case when Noah Webster comes to town.

Now that’s just plain stupid! But I do like to see a big boy taking it where the sun doesn’t shine. Even if in this case it was by another big boy.

Man, good thing Panera isn’t right down the street from me. In my local shopping center there is a Jerry’s Subs & Pizza, Subway, and Pizza Hut Takeout all next to each other.

Matt: Pizza Hut Takeout sells sandwiches? That just seems.. wrong. It’s like Chinese restaurants that sell hamburgers.

What is this then?
