As I was shaving the other day, as I am wont to do on occasion, it hit me: I’ve been using the same razor for over ten years.
Back in high school, I bought a Gillette Mach 3 razor. I don’t remember where I was when I bought it and I don’t remember it being a particuarly momentus event, but I also didn’t expect to still be using the same razor six years into the next millenium.
But here we are, and here I am, still using my three-bladed razor, shunning the mockery that has become Big Business razors with its five-bladed vibrating nonsense. It serves me mighty well and Gillette it still making replacement blades. As long as they do, I’ll continue using it.
Interestingly, about five years ago, they randomly sent me another Mach 3 in the mail, free and unsolicited. That one is now my “travel razor.”
Perhaps it’s an inherited trait. My grandfather used the same old, rusty razor for as long as I knew him. It must have dated back at least 30 years, probably more.
Not bad considering the initial investment.
