Yesterday I purchased my lunch at Panera Bread, in part because I wanted something a little different and in part because I wanted to get out of the office for a few minutes.
When I ordered my meal something new happened: I was given a choice as to what side I wanted with my sandwich. Chips were what I went with (I had a panini, after all) but I had a few more options: a hunk of a baguette, a hunk of another bread product, or an apple. An apple! Nice.
I think it’s quite nice that restaurants are opening up the side item to choices. Sometimes I want a baked potato instead of fries. Sometimes, an apple instead of chips. And sometimes, a cookie. Too bad a cookie isn’t a side. It should be.
