Long Sleeves

Chicago has been experiencing a short, late hot streak. For the past four days temps have been up in the 90s, and kids who are back in school haven’t been pleased. But for adults like me – I am one, you know – there’s a bigger concern: when is it time to switch over to long sleeve shirts?

I work in a business casual environment and have spent most of the summer and spring working with short sleeve shirts: polos, mostly, but a few buttondowns too. But my fall and winter clothes are looking a little neglected in our closet. I guess the big question is when to pull the trigger.

I’m certainly not going to switch over when it’s still warm – we’re supposed to be back in the mid-80s in a couple of days. But when do I get the “all clear” to abandon my summer clothes and move firmly into fall? I think I’m going to devise a rule of thumb here: when we’ve got 4 or more consecutive days in the lower 70s and upper 60s. Then, I think my clothes can rejoice. And my jacket? My jacket won’t know what to do with itself.
