Stephen King is Spamming Me

Several years ago, Stephen King released one of his novels online. I don’t even remember what it was called because it wasn’t very good.

But every since then, I’ve been stuck on the Stephen King mailing list. I never bothered to unsubscribe because it was getting filtered to my spam folder anyway, but yesterday I looked at one of the letters sent out from the official list and realized it had nothing to do with Stephen King. Well, maybe a very tiny little bit. But almost nothing.

This is what it contained:

Stephen joined World Series Champion Boston Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo on Bronson’s album “Covering The Bases”. The album, which includes various cover songs, was released on July 12. The album features many of the top musicians in music, including Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp), Leland Sklar (Phil Collins) and Mike Inez (Alice In Chains).

The album also features Red Sox players Johnny Damon, Kevin Youkilis and Lenny DiNardo, along with Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein.

Stephen contributed additional lyrics and spoken word on the fourth track “Everlong”. Check out Bronson’s album at …

Amazon.com is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a series of events including a Hall of Fame which features an excerpt from a novel in progress (the working title is currently Cell).

We do not have a publication date for this new novel at this time, but you can read the excerpt titled “The Pulse” here.

It seems like the Official Stephen King mailing list is now really just being used for other random promotions that are only barely linked to the man himself. Granted, it’s not spam in the sense that his people sold my address (like the folks at Dennis Kucinich’s site did… unless it was stolen), but it’s still a pretty lame topic for a mailing list about a writer.

(Note that I’m now unsubscribed.)
