Taking the Bus


In college, I rode the bus a number of times to get home during breaks. It was cheap and took me closer to my house than the train did. And almost every time, it was an ordeal, with missed connections or crazy loons riding the bus. But every time I've taken the bus to New York City, it's turned out to not only be a non-event, but a pleasant non-event.

Each time I've ridden into the city (usually from south Jersey but this past week from DC), the bus departed on time, arrived early, and everyone on the bus was quiet, respectful, and slept most of the time. Sure, it's not glamorous and we had to sit through a showing of Bringin' Down the House, but it was a really pleasant experience, especially for having paid a mere $31 per person, round trip. It's one mode of transport that I wouldn't hesitate to use again and again (though I'd avoid it with kids).

I'm sure that Pingers have some good bus stories... there have got to be some good ones floating around.

not really a story, but--my Masters advisor offered advice never to wear a "NASA" hat on a long bus ride, because you'll attract weirdos who want to tell you all about their theories.

I have onyl ridden buses on school trips, like the ones with tv's. i rode a train to pittsburgh from philadelphia. it took a long time, but was worth while.

I've taken buses all my life to and from work, church, shopping. And the most embarrising thing that has happend to me is dropping my coffie. its embarrasing because people are lifting thier feet,purses, and suitcases all because of you. And of course your not carring a mop..its not like you can say.. oh.. sorry everyone I'll get that moped up here in a sec. Like I said.. its embarrasing.

I've never not enjoyed taking a charter bus. In high school, I played football and we rode on nice chartered buses all the time. They were clean, well appointed, more comfortable than any airplane, or Greyhound, for that matter.

I took Greyhound once, as a kid. I wasn't paying much attention to the bus itself because I was, well, a kid. I was more interested in the handheld video game I played the whole way.

I was afraid of the truckstops they brought us to, though. The food was terrible.
