After smiling and saying hello to a passing a co-worker in the hallway, I’ve found myself holding my smile well beyond when they’ve passed me. If someone else were to appear, they’d see me smiling goofily at no one. But it feels weird to automatically drop a smile as soon as I’ve passed the person I’m saying hello to, perhaps because that would make it feel forced and fake.
Next time you smile and say hello to someone, take note of how long you keep smiling and report back here.
