Getting Back in the Swing

When you return from a vacation, say a three-day vacation after a two-day weekend where you didn’t think about work a single time, how long does it take you to get back into the swing of your normal everyday routine? Some people seem to be able to do it right away, but I certainly have an adjustment period. Usually the first morning back is extremely hectic, playing catch-up on important e-mails or requests that have come in during the time off. It’s a stressful period since it’s hard to be mentally ready to really handle the workload that hits you in those first few hours back.

Then, by the afternoon, I find myself thinking, “Yesterday at this time I was…” and wishing I was doing it again. That afternoon is hard to make it through.

So, I’d say it takes one day for me to really be back in the swing of things, settled back into my daily routine.
