The results of the 2002 Smartest State Survey are now available. Hop on over there and see how your state ranked. Me, I was raised in the fourth most intelligent state, but then went to college (and currently live in) the 37th most intelligent (14th least intelligent?) state.
The results don’t account for homeschooled students (sorry, Chris!) and are based on 21 different public education factors, including high school drop-out rate, average class size, and average salary of public school teachers. Exactly how this determines how “smart” a state is, I’m not sure, as less than half the factors account for student proficiency.
But, hell, whut do I no? I’m in a dum state!
