Double Dare

The one game show every kid wanted to be on when I was in middle school was Double Dare with Marc Summers. The questions weren’t softballs and the stunts often involved getting quite messy, so naturally it was a hit with school-age kids. The later Family Double Dare wasn’t nearly as fun, since parents were involved.

Each year a group of students from my middle school would wind up on Double Dare (or Finders Keepers), which was always something to look forward to.

Interestingly, host Marc Summers had a serious case of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. His specific problem dealt with perfectionism, or everything needing to be in its place. As you can imagine, being the host of a game show as messy as Double Dare was a serious stressor for him. Summers wrote a book about his battle with OCD titled Everything In Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Here’s a great fan page about Double Dare with some great pictures and memories of the show. Take a look and relive some of the great memories, and then watch on late-night Nickelodeon for reruns of the show. -ram
