Supermarkets, Part One: Why Orange is Good

As much as I like shopping at a Fresh Fields when I can, I have to admit there’s no feeling quite like stepping into a Safeway or a Giant that’s been around since the 1970’s. I dig walking in and being greeted by the huge, blocky font we used to see on 70’s game shows, surrounded by the loving orange and snot-green colors that come straight from the fashions of the day.

In Falls Church, there’s an IGA that captures this feel better than any other supermarket I’ve been to in the last ten years — it’s like walking right onto the set of The Price is Right (who hasn’t changed the colors on their set in almost 30 years). Forget time machines, folks — take a trip to the deli counter! -ram
