‘Pumping on Your Stereo’

For some reason, every few months I get a pop song stuck in my noggin and it won’t break free. These songs might not be that great, or that entertaining. But a catchy riff might just be peanut butter to the mouth of my brain. If that’s the case, this stupid Supergrass song, "Pumping on Your Stereo", has got me and got me good.

I imagine that part of the reason I like it is because it does fall under the category of power pop, although it’s not as challenging as a good Matthew Sweet song. The main riff is very, very catchy and easy to play. The lyrics? Well, nothing too evocative. But dammit, it’s a fun song, okay? Okay. And the video is terribly creative.

Of course, because this single is getting massive MTV play (ironically, not pumping much on my stereo), it’s going to die a quick death. Just like Third Eye Blind’s "Never Let You Go", Len’s "Steal My Sunshine", and Vitamin C’s "Smile", all of which had been lodged in my head at some point.

Guilty pleasures, I tell ya. -pm
