What to like about EZ-Pass:
- When there’s a big backup at the tollbooth, I can zip right through the EZ-Pass Only lane.
- Occasional discounts on tolls.
- No need for change or fumbling with money.
What I don’t like as much:
- Every EZ-Pass Only lane is a lane without a human being earning a living.
- You’re supposed to be able to glide through at 10mph, but I find myself getting worried I won’t get the “EZ-Pass Accepted! GO” light and have to hit the brakes as I go through, distracting me.
- Not all toll plazas accept EZ-Pass yet.

EZ Pass has never given out a ticket for getting from one toll booth to the next too quickly. They COULD determine that you were speeding by analyzing your time between tolls, but the truth is they don’t (regardless of how many people tell you they have a friend who got a speeding ticket this way). You can receive a ticket or have your EZ Pass service suspended for passing through a single EZ Pass booth too fast. This myth is like the “we only use 10% of our brains” nonsense: people keep saying it (and believing it), but it doesn’t make it true.
