Favorite Museum

What’s your favorite museum?

When I was a little kid, I wasn’t a big fan of museums – especially natural history and art museums. Boooring! But once, my parents took my sister and I to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago… I was forever changed. Instead of just having things on the walls, MSI had switches! Pulleys! Knobs! Buttons! Keyboards! Lots of things to do, you know? I still enjoy MSI quite a bit these days, although a bit of the appeal has started to fade.

A museum I like nearly as much now is the Art Institute of Chicago. It’s a great collection of sculpture, photography, paintings and artifacts… but by far my favorite thing to show people is the Chicago Stock Exchange room. This room is fully intact and restored from Chicago’s original Stock Exchange, which was demolished in 1972. It’s gorgeous, and truly transports the person to another time and place. To me, that’s great art. -pm
